Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin on Wednesday laid the foundation stone for the construction of eight additional classrooms at the Mandaikadu Devasthanam school through video conference.
The new classrooms are being constructed by the Hindu Religious and Charitable Endowments (HR&CE) Department at a cost of ₹2.42 crore.
Following the Chief Minister’s virtual inauguration from the Secretariat, Kanniyakumari District Collector R. Alagumeena lit a ceremonial lamp at the site and addressed the gathering.
The Collector said that the HR&CE department has been undertaking various measures, including the renovation of temples, temple ponds and cars, recovering and protecting the temple properties and improving the amenities for the devotees visiting the temple. In addition to this, the department has also been actively engaged in the process of renovating schools run by temples and constructing new buildings and classrooms for them.
As part of the initiative, the foundation stone was laid for new classrooms in the Mandaikadu Devasthanam school run by the Mandaikadu temple, which would be helpful for the students studying in the school from the surrounding regions, added Ms. Alagumeena.
The Collector further instructed the department officials to expedite the construction works and ensure the classrooms are ready for student use as early as possible.
