Civic authorities seal 15 shops for non-payment of rents in Vizianagaram

The Vizianagaram Municipal Corporation has cracked down on the tenants who have not paid rents for several months for the shops leased out by the corporation in the city.

The municipal officials have sealed around 15 shops as there has been no response from the shop owners who could not clear the rental arrears for many months.

The Municipal Commissioner, Palli Nallanayya, said that the corporation was collecting very nominal rents compared to the private properties.

In a press release, he said that the shop owners were supposed to pay rents in the first week of every month and the revenue had to be spent on the improvement of civic amenities. The corporation wanted to renovate all the shops and improve facilities for tenants so that the rental income would go up and complete occupancy of all the shops could be achieved.

Mr. Nallanayya said that the tenants were not allowed to lease their premises to third parties, since it would amount to violation of the agreements signed with the corporation, and would be viewed seriously.
