Chinna Kulam pond renovated in Inammathur


The SHEPHERD social outreach programme of St. Joseph’s College in association with Rotary Club of Tiruchi, Shakti and local Panchayat leaders, completed the restoration of the Chinna Kulam pond, spread across 15 acres in Inammathur village, Manikandam Block on Tuesday.

As part of the restoration worth ₹5 lakh, the pond and its inlet channels were desilted and its banks were fortified. The mud dug up from the pond was used to raise the level of the government school playground nearby.

Chinna Kulam’s clean-up is expected to have a positive effect on the water table of the village, and help with the irrigation needs of the farmers in the region.

Raja Govindasamy, district governor, Rotary International District 3000, Shashi Fomra, district chairman, pond restoration project, Augustin Immanvel Devanesan, block development officer, Manigandam, Pavulraj Michael, rector, St. Joseph’s College, and senior officials..
