When is Chhath Puja celebrated?
Chhath Puja takes place six days after Diwali, during the month of Kartika, according to the Hindu lunar calendar. And so, it generally falls in October or November in the Gregorian calendar. This year, Chhath Puja will be celebrated from October 25 to October 28. The festival lasts for four days, each day holding special rituals and significance:1. Nahay Khay (Day 1): Devotees take a holy dip in a river or pond and prepare a satvik meal (without onion and garlic).2. Kharna (Day 2): A full day of fasting ends in the evening with offerings of kheer and fruits to the Sun God.3. Sandhya Arghya (Day 3): Devotees gather at rivers or water bodies to offer prayers to the setting sun, singing folk songs and performing rituals4. Usha Arghya (Day 4): The festival concludes with prayers to the rising sun, followed by breaking the fast.
