The Anti-Corruption Branch (ACB) of the Delhi government has summoned former Ministers Manish Sisodia and Satyendar Jain in connection with alleged irregularities in the construction of classrooms during the previous Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government’s tenure.
“Mr. Jain has been summoned on June 6 and Mr. Sisodia on June 9 based on an FIR filed on April 30,” said an officer.
According to the FIR, financial irregularities to the tune of ₹2,000 crore in the construction of over 12,000 classrooms or semi-permanent structures in Delhi government schools occurred when the two held the Education and the Public Works Department portfolios respectively.
Both AAP leaders are currently on bail in separate cases. Mr. Sisodia has been booked in a case related to alleged irregularities in the 2021-22 Delhi excise policy and Mr. Jain in a money laundering case.
‘Political ploy’
Reacting to the summons, AAP alleged that the ruling BJP was using the ACB as a tool to target the Opposition party. “This is not a scam by any stretch. It’s a calculated political ploy by the BJP. They are weaponising institutions to attack AAP leaders and create a false narrative,” AAP said in a statement.
