Newly elected Telangana BJP president N. Ramchander Rao said on Wednesday that advocates can do ‘magic’ as they function as ‘social engineers’, hence can have an influence on the society.
Addressing the Telangana Bar Council members at a felicitation programme organised on the occasion of the former MLC taking over as the party chief, Mr. Rao asserted that advocates should have a political orientation, should observe the happenings in the society and react accordingly, because they can leave an impact.
Stating that he was ‘proud’ of being part of the advocate community, the BJP leader said advocates can have different ideologies and support different political parties but once they enter the court of law, utmost respect is shown as ‘everything else is left outside just like when we enter a temple’.
Advocates are allowed to have political differences but they respect the law profession and the legal system. “I never allowed my political connections affect my functioning in the court. I had never discriminated against anyone as the president of the Bar council or as a senior advocate,” said Mr. Rao.
Politics and the legal profession have been co-existing in a friendly manner for years and there are about 250 MPs who are advocates including the Bar Council of India chairman, said Mr. Rao and pointed out that he used to take up cases even as the MLC. He would always be ready to support the lawyers cause or provide any assistance to the Bar association as well as the Bar council.
