Parents of Rithanya, a 27-year-old woman from Tiruppur who took her life allegedly due to dowry harassment, met Leader of Opposition and AIADMK general secretary Edappadi K. Palaniswami in Salem on Tuesday (July 1, 2025).
On June 28, Rithanya ended her life after sending a WhatsApp audio message to her family regarding the dowry harassment she faced from her husband and his parents. The Cheyur police registered a case and arrested her husband and her father-in-law for abetment of suicide.
Meanwhile, on Tuesday, parents and relatives of the deceased came to Salem and met former Chief Minister Mr. Palaniswami. They claimed that the accused’s family and relatives are in the Congress party and the police are allegedly helping them to escape from the case. The family members demanded a fair inquiry into the death.
