Residents of Isnapur, nearly two kilometres from the site of the explosion, were startled by a loud blast that echoed through the area around 9.10 a.m. Moments later, thick plumes of smoke could be seen rising from the premises of Sigachi Industries Pvt. Ltd., prompting locals to rush towards the site.
“I saw the smoke from my house and ran straight there. Some of us helped lift the injured into the company mini-bus before the officials arrived,” said Sai Reddy, who stood alongside dozens of others near the barricades, about 500 metres from the site.

Rama Devi, a local vendor who operates a tea stall nearby, said, “The blast shook our windows. At first, I was puzzled about the origin because of the echo effect. Then we saw the black smoke from far away.”
Another resident, 24-year-old Praveen Kumar, who works in a nearby warehouse, recalled, “There was a deafening sound and everything went silent for a few seconds. When I stepped out, the air was filled with smoke and the smell of chemicals. I’ve never seen anything like it.”
Meanwhile, Sai Reddy, who grew up in Isnapur, claimed that it was a common occurrence in the industrial area. He cited the reactor blast in Hathnoora, Sangareddy, reported on April 4, 2024 which killed four and injured 16, as the last big one.

“I thought a bomb had gone off. My little boy started crying, and we just ran out of the house,” said Rajitha, a homemaker from the nearby labour colony. “We didn’t know what was happening. My husband works in that direction, I had a panic attack until I heard from him,” she said.
Mohammed Irfan, who works as a food delivery agent in the area, was still in his red uniform standing near the barricaded entrance to the road leading to the unit. “The noise was terrifying and could be heard over the songs playing in my earphones,” he said.
