Just days after delivering a child and throwing the baby near a bush at the Tiruttani Government Hospital premises, a minor appeared before the All Women Police, Tiruttani on Saturday, claimed ownership of the child and registered a complaint against a 24-year-old youth who had raped her. The police arrested the youth and remanded him to judicial custody.
Police sources said on June 11, the public heard the cries of a newborn baby lying near a bush. They rescued the baby and handed the child over to the hospital. Following initial treatment, the child was handed over to the Social Welfare Department for care and protection. Thiruthani Police registered a case and investigated to trace the person who abandoned the child. While the investigation was on, a 15-year-old girl appeared before All Women Police and lodged a complaint alleging that a 24-year-old youth had cheated her after raping on promising to marry her.
Police arrested the youth who was working in a private firm in Sholingur, Ranipet district and had a relationship with the minor girl after promising to marry her. He refused to marry her when she insisted. She lodged the complaint. Police registered a case against him under the provisions of Protection of Children from Sexual Offences(POCSO)Act and he was remanded to judicial custody.
