Voter enrolment drive launched in Coimbatore to ensure 100% first-time voter participation

To ensure 100% participation of first-time voters, a special voter enrolment drive was launched in Coimbatore on Saturday by District Election Officer and Collector Pavankumar G. Giriyappanavar.

The drive began at Sri Ramakrishna College of Arts and Science in the city.

The initiative focuses on enrolling individuals aged 18 and above in the electoral rolls and is being rolled out across colleges in the district.

The Collector also launched the online registration process and participated in a human chain organised to spread awareness among new voters.

He said all students enrolled in colleges in Coimbatore must ensure their names are listed in the voter rolls. Coimbatore, which has the second-highest number of colleges in Tamil Nadu after Chennai, has a large student population from across the State and beyond. Regardless of their home districts, students should confirm their inclusion in the rolls of their respective constituencies.

Voter enrolment camps are planned in 183 colleges across the district. In the first phase, more than 46,000 students from 82 colleges are expected to register. At Sri Ramakrishna College alone, about 2,000 students are expected to apply online.

The Collector appreciated the college’s efforts and said it could serve as a model for others. He encouraged students to use the voter helpline app or the Election Commission of India website to submit their applications.

Ahead of next year’s elections, a model polling booth will be set up to familiarise students with the voting process. Awareness campaigns, including human chains, will continue to be held to promote full voter participation.
