The Kempegowda International Airport in Bengaluru received a bomb threat by mail yet again, keeping the security staff on their toes.
On June 17, the terminal manager of the airport received an email from ‘Alex Paul Menon’ claiming that Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) had been planted in two places like a puzzle and they would explode in the washroom pipeline if not solved. The sender claimed that the blast would be to commemorate the hanging of Mumbai terror accused Ajmal Kasab and the alleged illegal detention of Youtuber Savakku Shankar.
A special team was formed to check the airport before alerting the police.
On June 13, a similar email was received by airport security from ‘Chitrakala Gopalan’ claiming that an IED had been planted near the prayer room.
The police have registered an FIR.
BIAL sources said that there was no impact on or disruption of airport services due to the bomb threats.
“There have been a few instances recently where fake bomb threats calls and emails have been received. Following up on this, the agencies concerned have reported the same to the police, and FIRs have been registered. This has become quite a routine now. However, there have been no disruption of flights due to this,” a source in the BIAL said.
