Lokayukta officials on Wednesday arrested Nandish, a surveyor at the Urban Property Ownership Record (UPOR) office in Mangaluru and Diwakar Bejai, a real estate agent, in connection with a bribery case.
A Lokayukta release said that the surveyor had received a total ₹ 43,500 as bribe.
It stated that the complainant’s mother had applied to the UPOR office in February to obtain a single-site sketch and property card for her property in Kankanady and Bajal villages. Later, Nandish conducted the land survey in April and received ₹6,500 as a direct bribe and ₹20,000 through broker Diwakar Bejai.
Again, Nandish demanded ₹18,000 as a bribe for making the sketch and the card. Following this, the complainant filed a complaint with the Lokayukta officials with proof. A case was registered against the surveyor and the broker.
Later the surveyor received ₹15,000 bribe in June through the broker.
Nandish was caught red handed when receiving another ₹ 2,000 as bribe from the complainant on June 18.
