The Cyberabad Traffic Police has booked 283 individuals for drunk driving during a weekend special enforcement drive. All the violators are male and will be produced before the court.
The Jeedimetla Traffic police reported the highest number of cases at 32, followed by Chevella with 27, Shamshabad with 26, and Miyapur and Balanagar with 22 cases each. The lowest count was from Raidurgam with five cases. Of the total cases, 219 involved two-wheelers, 50 involved four-wheelers, 11 were three-wheelers, and 3 were heavy vehicles.
The majority of offenders had Blood Alcohol Concentration (BAC) levels between 51 and 100 mg/100 ml, accounting for 113 cases. Of the total, 65 had BAC under 50, 62 were between 101 and 150, 25 between 151 and 200, 12 between 201 and 300, and six were over 301.
Cyberabad Police reiterated that driving under the influence is a criminal offence. In cases where such driving causes a fatal accident, the driver will be booked under Section 105 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023, for culpable homicide not amounting to murder. The offence carries up to 10 years’ imprisonment and a fine.
