run Prasanth, a postgraduate medical student at B J Medical College in Ahmedabad, says it will take him some time to recover from witnessing the crash of the ill-fated Air India flight to London.

Mr. Prasanth hails from Tamil Nadu and is doing an MD in Microbiology. He resides in one of the apartments designated for postgraduate students.

“The incident occurred around 1.30 p.m., which is when most students head to the canteen for lunch. The plane crashed directly into the canteen where MBBS students usually eat. Following the crash, parts of the plane scattered and caused a fire that spread to the nearby apartment complex where the postgraduate students stay,” he said. “As soon as we heard the sound and saw the fire and smoke, we immediately ran outside,.” he added.

Mr. Prasanth said that it’s been a traumatic experience for all the students. “It is hard to say what to feel; whether those who survived should be called lucky, or if there’s any way to make sense of those who didn’t,” he said.

“We wereallowed to go back to our rooms briefly to collect essential belongings on Friday,” he said.
