A Special Sub-Inspector of Police, who was on his way to duty on a two-wheeler, died when he swerved to avoid a dog and crashed into an electric pole near Vengambur on Friday.
Mohanraj, 52, a native of Pugalur in Karur district, was serving at the Malayampalayam police station in Erode district and residing at Varunthiya Palayam near Kodumudi. On Friday morning, he left home wearing a helmet.
As he neared Vengambur, a dog suddenly crossed the road. In an attempt to avoid it, Mohanraj swerved the vehicle and crashed into an electric pole. The impact caused his helmet to dislodge. He sustained severe head injuries after hitting the pole. Bystanders rushed to his aid and took him to Kodumudi Government Hospital in 108 ambulance. However, doctors confirmed that he had died before arrival.
Following the incident, police personnel from Kodumudi and Malayampalayam stations reached the spot and initiated an investigation. Mohanraj is survived by his wife and son.
