The police have registered a case against five temple dancers for performing a midnight ritual allegedly involving human body parts, including a head, after returning from a burial ground, in Tirunelveli.
During the midnight rituals of the Uppur Oorkaadu Sudalai Madasamy Temple festival, held near Vellankuzhi under Veeravanallur police station limits last Friday (June 6, 2025), five transgender persons, who were dancers, returned to the temple from a burial ground as part of a ritual (saamakkodai).
The complaint was that they were seen dancing with parts of a human body, including a head, hand, and leg, besides a long sickle. The Veeravanallur police registered the case after visuals of the dance went viral on social media.
