Sixty-six ‘illegal’ Bangladeshi immigrants, among them 16 women and 30 children, were apprehended from Wazirpur and New Sabzi Mandi on Friday, the police said on Monday.
The detainees, belonging to 11 different families, allegedly worked as brick kiln workers in Haryana’s Nuh before moving to the Capital, Deputy Commissioner of Police (North West) Bhisham Singh said.
In an attempt to avoid detection, the families had split into two groups and settled in Wazirpur JJ Colony and New Sabzi Mandi areas, he said, adding that the families had deliberately concealed mobile phones and identity documents to evade surveillance.
The DCP said the action is part of an ongoing drive to detect and detain unauthorised foreign nationals in Delhi.
