Youth sentenced to 10 years for impregnating minor girl


The Fast Track Mahila Court here on Monday sentenced a 20-year-old youth to 10 years of rigorous imprisonment for living with a minor girl and impregnating her.

According to the prosecution, B. Maideen Basha of Surampatti was employed at a textile shop in Gani Market, where he became acquainted with a 15-year-old girl working at a nearby shop. He reportedly expressed his love for her and promised marriage. On July 26, 2019, he allegedly kidnapped the girl and began living with her. The girl later became pregnant.

When she visited the Government Headquarters Hospital, doctors alerted the All Women Police Station. A case was registered under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, 2012, and relevant sections related to kidnapping. He was subsequently arrested.

After the trial, Judge C. Sornakumar found Maideen Basha guilty and sentenced him to 10 years of rigorous imprisonment, in addition to imposing a fine of ₹1,000. He was later lodged in Coimbatore Central Prison.
