Water was released from the Amaravathy Dam for irrigation of 7,520 acres in Udumalpet and Madathukulam taluks on Saturday, as per the directive of Chief Minister M.K. Stalin.

Ministers M.P. Saminathan and Kayalvizhi Selvaraj initiated release of water at the dam, at a function.

For 2025-26, the water release from the dam channelled into Ramakulam, Kallapuram, Kumaralingam, Sarkar Kannadiputtur, Solammadevi, Kaniyur, Kadathur and Karatholvu canals will carried out for 80 days, with closure of 55 days in between, till October 20, Mr. Saminathan said.

Water not exceeding 2073.60 million cubic feet per second will be released for irrigating the 1450 acres in Udumalpet taluk and 6070 acres in Madathukulam taluk.

Pollachi MP K. Eswarasamy; Chief Engineer of Water Resources Department Murugesan, senior officials of other government departments, and representatives of farmers’ associations took part.
