A 30-year-old man was held on Saturday for allegedly threatening to kill Chief Minister Rekha Gupta in a call to the Ghaziabad police on Friday.
The accused made the threat after the police refused to help him contact his estranged wife, a police officer said.
The accused, identified as Shlok Tripathi, was held in a joint operation by Delhi Police and Uttar Pradesh Police. A day earlier, his number was traced to Gorakhpur in Uttar Pradesh.
Marital discord
During interrogation, Shlok, who is pursuing an LLB (Bachelor of Legislative Laws) and works as a deed writer at a Ghaziabad court, revealed that he got married in 2020, but his wife has been living separately for the past year.
‘Alcohol addiction’
Although the accused mentioned that his wife left him because of a dispute between her and his mother, the police said she possibly took the decision because of Shlok’s alcohol addiction.
He was also in a rehabilitation programme for three months, the officer added.
“At first, he did not mention the CM’s name when he called on Friday. He asked the police to make his wife come back and complained that she was not talking to him. However, when the police did not pay heed, he threatened to kill the CM,” the officer said. The accused is a “habitual caller” and had called the police six times that night, he added.
