The Bharatiya Janata Party was not behind the attempt to make peace between Pattali Makkal Katchi founder S. Ramadoss and his son Anbumani Ramadoss, its State president, Nainar Nagenthran said in Madurai on Friday.
“Though the party believes in harmony it was not connected with any kind of negotiation (between the two PMK leaders),” he said when asked whether Union Home Minister Amit Shah spoke to Dr. Ramadoss over phone when RSS ideologue and Thuglak Editor S Gurumurthy met the PMK leader on Thursday.
When his attention was drawn to Dr. Ramadoss’ recent statement that the PMK had an alliance with the BJP during the Lok Sabha election against his wish, Mr. Nagenthran preferred not to comment on “what had happened in the past”.
He also refused to comment if Mr. Gurumurthy was sent as an emissary by the BJP to lay a foundation for an alliance with the PMK in the 2026 Assembly polls. However, he said the BJP was trying to consolidate all political forces with the single target of unseating the DMK from power.
On whether the Desiya Murpokku Dravida Kazhagam will join the BJP alliance, he quipped, “wait and watch”.
Mr. Nagenthran was in Madurai to perform bhoomi puja for the June 8 party conference in Madurai in which Mr Shah would address party leaders. Madurai was chosen as the venue “as it is an auspicious place that would augur well for the party in the ensuing Assembly election. “
Mr. Shah would arrive in Madurai on Saturday. He would visit Meenakshi Sundareswarar Temple and meet the State core committee members.
Later, in the evening he would address the State, district and mandal office-bearers. “It is a party meeting and no leaders of alliance parties are likely to attend,” he added.
