Man held for murder of his wife in Mudichur


Manimangalam Police arrested a 28-year-old man who allegedly had beaten his wife to death. Her family alleged that she was repeatedly harassed for dowry and being discriminated against on her caste basis.

The victim has been identified as Steffy Medilta, 22 who was working as HR manager in a private firm. She was staying with her husband and his family members at Ashtalakshmi Nagar, Varadharajapuram in Mudichur, Manimangalam police station limits. Her husband T. Rajmohan, 28, a native of Sivagangai district was working as an engineer in Thirumudivakkam.

Police sources said Rajmohan came as a tenant to the house of Steffy’s parents. The youngsters fell in love and married in February, 2024 despite resistance from his parents initially. The couple had a four-month old daughter now. On May 3, Rajmohan’s brother called Steffy’s brother Darwin Benaiah and informed him that Steffy was unwell. When Darwin went to their house, he found Steffy lying breathless.

She was rushed to a private hospital where she was declared dead. Her brother lodged a police complaint suspecting foul play in her death. Police received a post-mortem report and found external injuries on her body. Police further interrogated Rajmohan and he admitted to have murdered his wife.

Rajmohan was arrested and remanded to judicial custody. Further investigation is on to ascertain the dowry harassment meted out to her.
