Centre issues guidelines to curb fires in NCR landfills

NEW DELHI

In a bid to curb air pollution and prevent fires at landfill sites, the Centre for Air Quality Management (CAQM) has issued stringent statutory directions targeting sanitary landfill sites and dumpsites across the National Capital Region.

The directions mandate a series of preventive and safety measures, including installation of CCTV cameras for continuous monitoring, fencing of landfill sites to prevent unauthorised access, deployment of methane gas detectors to identify high-risk areas, and provision of adequate fire-fighting infrastructure, including hydrants, water tankers, and earth movers for soil spreading.
