Government committed to addressing drought conditions, says Andhra Minister


The government was taking significant steps to address drought conditions and enhance social welfare programmes across Rayalaseema, said Minister for Handlooms and BC Welfare S. Savitha on Wednesday (February 12).

Addressing a press conference after visiting the Gollapalli Reservoir at Penukonda in Sri Sathya Sai district, the Minister reiterated the government’s commitment to providing irrigation and drinking water to drought-prone regions. She said several welfare schemes were being implemented to uplift vulnerable communities.

She referred to welfare schemes such as NTR Bharosa pensions to support groups such as senior citizens, widows and differently-abled individuals.

On the employment front, she said that the government was preparing to launch the Mega DSC recruitment drive, expected to provide jobs to lakhs of unemployed youth. She affirmed that the government remained committed to implementing all promises made in its election manifesto.

As for infrastructure development, she promised that the Polavaram project-linked districts would receive benefits and that work on the ambitious Polavaram irrigation project was progressing steadily. She also highlighted the NTR Housing Scheme, under which homes were being sanctioned for the homeless, ensuring affordable housing for all eligible beneficiaries.
