A total of 528 individuals found to be driving under the influence of alcohol were booked by the Cyberabad Traffic Police during the weekend enforcement drive.
The highest number of cases was recorded in RC Puram followed by Miyapur at 65 and Gachibowli at 48. Meanwhile, Balanagar reported the lowest number of cases at 15, followed by KPHB at 16 and Kukatpally at 18.
The majority of the offenders were riding two-wheelers, accounting for 391 of the cases. There were also 113 cases involving four-wheelers, 22 involving three-wheelers, and two offenders were found operating heavy vehicles while under the influence.
Offenders were classified based on their Blood Alcohol Concentration (BAC) levels. A total of 93 individuals had BAC levels below 50 mg/100 ml, while the largest group, 230 offenders, registered between 51 and 100 mg/100 ml. Another 119 drivers recorded levels between 101 and 150 mg/100 ml, followed by 42 in the 151–200 mg/100 ml range. A further 27 were found with BAC levels between 201 and 300 mg/100 ml, and 17 cases were recorded above 301 mg/100 ml.
The police warned that any individual who causes a fatal accident while in an inebriated state will be charged under Section 105 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023 (culpable homicide not amounting to murder), which carries a maximum punishment of 10 years’ imprisonment along with a fine.
Citizens are urged to drive responsibly and avoid drinking and driving to ensure road safety for all.
