The Bhimbetka Rock Shelters, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, are tucked away in the Vindhya hills close to Bhopal. With some rock shelters that date back at least 10,000 BCE, these are among the most important prehistoric sites in the world and provide some of the earliest indications of human habitation on the Indian subcontinent.
