Around 4,200 autorickshaw drivers from the city participated in a road safety awareness programme organised by the city police on Wednesday. The initiative aimed to educate drivers on traffic rules, the Motor Vehicles Act, and other key safety measures.
Participants were divided into 16 batches, with separate sessions held for each group. During the programme, police personnel presented CCTV footage of recent accidents in the city, analysed their causes and discussed preventive strategies. Topics such as defensive driving, the importance of vehicle insurance, and ways to reduce road mishaps were also covered.
Commissioner of Police Shankabratha Bagchi attended the session for the 15th batch of drivers. He emphasised the importance of maintaining a healthy relationship between the police and the autorickshaw drivers’ community. He also announced that through Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) support, the police would soon provide uniforms to drivers and organise free health camps for them.
