A national-level Lok Adalat conducted by the Karnataka State Legal Services Authority (KSLSA) across the State has witnessed an amicable settlement of 2,59,270 cases, which were among the cases pending in various courts, including 1,540 cases involving senior citizens, 212 cases pending from 10 years, and 37 cases pending from the past 15 years.
The Lok Adalat, held on March 8, also saw the end of 39,22,498 pre-litigation cases, which are disputes/complaints of citizens pending before various public authorities, and the settlement of 411 cases pending before the Bengaluru Bench of the Debt Recovery Tribunal, which resulted in the resolution of a debt of around ₹195 crore.
Addressing a press conference here on Tuesday, Justice V. Kameswar Rao, a judge of the High Court of Karnataka and the Executive Chairperson of the KSLSA, said a total 1,706 cases pending from five years and above in various courts were settled, which include a 28-year-old criminal case that was pending in the court of additional judicial magistrate, Bengaluru.
While resolving the disputes in 1,966 cases of matrimonial and domestic violence cases, the Lok Adalat succeeded in reuniting 355 couples in conflict. A total ₹2,345 crore was the amount settled due the resolution of disputes in 4,204 motor vehicle accident claims cases, 11,408 cheque dishonour cases, 455 land acquisition cases, 40 real estate regulation cases, 4,064 accident and land acquisition execution cases, and 67 consumer dispute cases.
