12-day Hosur Book Fair begins with over 1 lakh titles


The 12-day Hosur Book Fair, organised jointly by the Tamil Nadu Science Forum and the district administration, began at the convention hall of Hotel Hills here on Friday.

Inaugurated by District Collector C. Dinesh Kumar, the fair features 110 stalls, over 1 lakh titles and hundreds of publications. The administration is anticipating a footfall of over 3 lakh at the venue during the 12 days.

The book fair will also host speakers every day at 7 p.m. Poet Yugabarathi will speak on Katrum Kavidhayum on July 13; writer and orator Madukur Ramalingam will speak on Puthagam enum Bodhimaram; Professor R. Gopal and speak Thilagavadhi will speak on July 15; Orator Parveen Sultana will speak on Aha Kavidai; writer Nakkeran will speak on Iyarkayae Iniya Ariviyan; V.Ramaraj, Tamil Nadu Lok Ayukta, will speak on July 18; Writer and orator Asher Shah Nawaz will speak on Manudam Vellum; Editor, News 18 S. Karthigai Selvan will speak on Arivae Azhgagu, Adhuvae Adigaram; former programme director, AIR, Sundara Avudayappan will speak on Edhu Nagareegam; short story writer Bava Selladurai will speak on Endrendrum Puthagangal.

All books may be purchased at 10% discount. In order to encourage students buy books, non-profits have stepped in to issue them coupons of ₹50.

The administration has arranged special bus facilities from all schools and colleges to enable students visit the fair, Mr. Dinesh Kumar said.

Further, special cultural programmes will be held between 5 p.m and 6 p.m. every day for school students.

The Tamil Nadu Science Forum has also introduced a book bank scheme, where a monthly savings of ₹100 can be made, and at the end of 12 months, in time for the book fair, books worth ₹1400 may be purchased from the fair. An array of contests will also be conducted during the 12 days, with an entire day dedicated to encouraging participation of girls. The book fair will be open from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m.
